Between 1897-1915 Cecil Court became the heart of the early British film industry and was known as Flicker Alley. British film pioneers Cecil Hepworth & James Williamson had offices here, alongside international companies such as Gaumont, Nordisk and Vitagraph

James Williamson (8 November 1855, Kirkcaldy, Fife – 18 August 1933, Richmond) was an early film developer and film director.

Cecil Milton Hepworth (19 March 1874 – 9 February 1953) was a British film director, producer and screenwriter. He was among the founders of the British film industry and continued making films into the 1920s at his Walton Studios. In 1923 his company went into receivership.
