Roger de Clinton bronze plaque in Lichfield
The site of the Tamworth Gate or Bar of the City erected by Bishop Roger de Clinton (1129-1148) who also surrounded the City by a moat.
The Bar remained until the end of the Eighteenth Century.
Roger de Clinton (died 1148) was a medieval Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield. He was responsible for organising a new grid street plan for the town of Lichfield in the 12th century which survives to this day.
