This building was opened on July 15th 1960 and replaces the old theatre destroyed by fire on April 13th 1954.

The Weymouth Pavilion, formerly the Ritz, is a theatre opened in 1908. It was owned and operated by Weymouth & Portland Borough Council until 2013, it is now run by a small but dedicated team of professionals whose sole aim is to ensure the building is able to be enjoyed by all. It has a capacity of 1,000. The theatre is located on Weymouth Pier, a peninsula of land reclaimed from the sea between Weymouth Harbour and Weymouth Beach and Esplanade. The newly built Weymouth Sea Life Tower is also located in this area.
